Buses, potholes and street lights

Buses, potholes and street lights

The parish council has received a number of complaints recently regarding the above and whilst it does what it can to lobby for action to be taken by the various bodies responsible, it does not have any authority to take action to address problems directly. Moreover, it is often the case that the responsible bodies will allocate resources for putting problems right depending on the number of complaints as opposed to who the complaint is from.

Therefore the best possible way to get action taken to get a problem resolved is for individuals to write a letter of complaint or to report a fault themselves, and to encourage neighbours and other parish residents to do the same. By all means, please keep the parish council informed of complaints, particularly if they are unresolved - these can be passed on to our local District and County Councillors who may be able to help by following up on a particular issue. Details of the local District Councillor, Margaret Wilcox, and County Councillor, David Thornton, can be found on this website in the Directory Section, and both are regular attenders at Parish Council meetings.

For complaints about buses, please write to the bus service operator giving details of the date, time and route. The more people do this, and the more complaints received, the more likely the bus service operator is to investigate. If you have already done so and feel that the response from the bus service operator was not satisfactory, please contact County Councillor David Thornton and / or let the parish council know and they can pass details on to him.

To report a pothole in a road, please contact the County Council Highways Hotline on 0845 609 6609 or use the link on the County Council page of this website (in the Directory section) to report a fault online.

To report a street light not working, please either report to the Highways Hotline or contact Parish Councillor Gary Murphy who is in regular contact with the Highways Department. Please note that street light repairs are classed as a lower priority than keeping the roads clear of debris and repairing potholes, and therefore it can take longer for these to be actioned.

More information about the Highways Hotline can be found here
